Cyprus ministry accelerates student grant processing
The Cypriot Ministry of Finance has announced measures to accelerate the processing of student grant applications for the 2025-2026 academic year. Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos confirmed in an August 7 response to a parliamentary inquiry from DISY MP Prodromos Alampritis that the processing of all applications is expected to be completed by the end of September. To address existing backlogs, the ministry is authorizing overtime work for current staff and providing temporary reinforcements from other administrative departments based on operational requirements.
The delays in grant processing stemmed from a late start to the application period, which was caused by the time required to implement legislative changes pending in Parliament. Minister Keravnos noted that while consecutive extensions to the application submission deadlines contributed to a prolonged processing timeline, these extensions were considered necessary to ensure all eligible students could apply. The current administrative focus remains on clearing the backlog to finalize payments to beneficiaries as soon as possible.
