Cypriot woman detained by occupation authorities at Agios Dometios checkpoint

A 45-year-old female citizen of the Republic of Cyprus was reportedly detained by occupation authorities on Saturday at the Agios Dometios checkpoint. The arrest occurred as she attempted to cross from the occupied areas into the government-controlled areas of the Republic.

According to her 47-year-old husband, who reported the incident to the Agios Dometios police station, the detention was justified by the authorities on the grounds that the woman’s identification details were not registered in the pseudo-state's system during her exit from the occupied areas on the previous day, Friday. The authorities allegedly cited her failure to undergo a formal identity check upon leaving as the primary reason for the arrest.

The Police of the Republic of Cyprus have officially notified the bicommunal Technical Committee on Crime and Criminal Matters regarding the incident. As of Saturday, there have been no related reports in the Turkish Cypriot media. It remains unclear whether the woman will be brought before a local court in the occupied areas, and her current status and location remain uncertain pending further developments.
