Cypriot athlete wins silver at Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games

On August 23, 2026, Cypriot athlete Savvia Hatzicharalambous secured a silver medal in the women's K1 500m canoe kayak event at the 20th Mediterranean Games currently taking place in Taranto, Italy.

Hatzicharalambous finished the race with a time of 2:02.19. She placed second behind the Portuguese winner, Ana Ga Quintao de Brito, who completed the course in 2:00.73. The podium was completed by Serbian athlete Zsofi Horvat, who took the bronze medal.

This victory marks the second medal for the Cypriot mission at the Taranto games. The success reflects the athlete's preparation and performance level, providing a significant boost to the overall results of the Cyprus Olympic Committee delegation at the international multi-sport event.
