Olympiacos enters race to sign West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez
Olympiacos has officially entered negotiations to sign 28-year-old defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez on loan from West Ham United. Following interest from Real Sociedad, the Greek club has submitted a formal proposal, with reports indicating that initial discussions with the Mexican international have been positive.
Alvarez, the captain of the Mexican national team, is expected to leave the English club this summer following their relegation to the Championship. His career includes stints at Club America, a successful four-year spell at Ajax where he won two league titles and a cup, and a 38-million-euro transfer to West Ham in 2023. During his time in London, he made 74 appearances, contributing 2 goals and 3 assists. Last season, he was on loan at Fenerbahce, where he registered 18 appearances and one assist.
The club is currently working to finalize the agreement before the summer transfer window closes. As a veteran with 103 caps for his country and four World Cup appearances, Alvarez is viewed as a high-profile target for the Olympiacos midfield as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
