Partial lunar eclipse to occur on August 28
A partial lunar eclipse is scheduled to take place in the early hours of Friday, August 28, 2026, just 16 days after the total solar eclipse observed on August 12. According to data provided by the Spanish National Geographic Institute (IGN) and reports from Euronews, the celestial event will be visible throughout Spain and partially across various phases in other parts of Europe, Africa, the Americas, and western Asia.
The eclipse will reach a magnitude of 0.93, meaning that approximately 93% of the Moon's diameter will be obscured by the Earth's darkest shadow, known as the umbra. Officials emphasize that this figure refers specifically to the diameter of the lunar disk rather than the total surface area. Unlike solar eclipses, this phenomenon poses no risk to the human eye, and the IGN confirms that it can be observed safely without the use of protective glasses, filters, or specialized astronomical equipment.
