Spanish businessman missing at sea off Pylos, Greece

A 66-year-old Spanish businessman, Juan Jose Mutilba Obregon, is missing after falling overboard from his sailboat off the coast of Pylos, Greece, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Mutilba had set sail from Syracuse, Sicily, with his 67-year-old wife, Carmen Diez. According to family accounts, the incident occurred after Mutilba caught a tuna and reportedly slipped on the fish's blood, falling into the sea. His wife was unable to stop the vessel or call for assistance due to a lack of mobile signal, leaving her drifting on the boat alone for three days.

Carmen Diez was rescued on Friday and is currently staying in Pylos with her children, refusing to return to Spain until the search for her husband concludes. She is receiving specialized psychological support as she remains in a state of shock.
