Spanish businessman missing after accident at sea near Greece

A search and rescue operation is underway for 66-year-old Spanish businessman Juan José Mutilba Obregón, who went missing after falling from his sailboat while traveling from Syracuse, Italy, toward Pylos, Greece. According to his son, Sergio, the incident occurred on Tuesday, August 18, when Obregón slipped on blood while cleaning a tuna on deck. His 67-year-old wife, Carmen, heard his final instructions to stop the engine but was unable to maneuver the vessel in time, causing the boat to drift away. While some reports mention the incident happened on August 17 in Italy, the family maintains the accident occurred on the 18th.

Following the fall, the woman was left alone on the drifting vessel for three days without communication due to a lack of mobile signal. She eventually regained connectivity on Friday and contacted a family friend with maritime expertise, who alerted authorities. The Hellenic Coast Guard responded to the drifting vessel 18 nautical miles off Pylos, escorting it to the local marina. The woman was found in good health, and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident is currently ongoing.
