Authorities appeal for information on four missing persons in Cyprus

Cypriot police have launched urgent search operations following the disappearance of four individuals across the Nicosia district. On August 23, 2026, 15-year-old Nikoletta Iakovou and 16-year-old Sotiroula Oikonomidou went missing from their homes in Nicosia. Additionally, 75-year-old Erato Athanasiou disappeared while on a walk in the Tsakkistra community, and 17-year-old Nezar Aljohmani was reported missing from his residence in Strovolos, having been absent since August 21.

The search for Erato Athanasiou is particularly extensive, involving the Civil Defense, the Forest Department, the Game and Fauna Service, volunteer groups, and specialized units utilizing K-9 teams, drones, and helicopters due to the difficult terrain in Tsakkistra. Authorities have released physical descriptions and photographs for all missing persons. Nikoletta is 1.50m tall, Sotiroula is 1.60m with brown hair and eyes, and Nezar is 1.60m with black hair and eyes. The 75-year-old Erato is 1.75m tall with black hair and brown eyes.

Police are requesting that anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of these individuals contact the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department at 22802222, the Morphou CID at 22802528 for the 75-year-old, or the Citizen's Line at 1460. Investigations remain ongoing for all four cases.
