Zelenskyy denies Ukrainian involvement in 2022 Nord Stream pipeline sabotage

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated on August 23, 2026, that his country played no role in the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines. These underwater explosions previously disrupted the supply of Russian gas to Europe, and the incident remains a significant point of geopolitical tension.

German investigators concluded last month that the sabotage was ordered by the Ukrainian state, a claim that risks straining relations between Kyiv and Berlin, one of Ukraine's primary military backers. Zelenskyy formally denied that Ukraine organized, executed, or conceived the operation, stating that Germany is fully aware of his country's innocence. He further noted that Kyiv is cooperating with German authorities on the investigation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their strategic partnership despite the ongoing allegations.
