Greek swimmers excel at the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto

Greek athletes have secured multiple medals in swimming events at the 2026 Mediterranean Games held in Taranto, Italy. On August 22, Dimitris Markos claimed gold in the 400m freestyle, clocking 3:47.07 and setting a new national record, surpassing his previous mark of 3:47.44 from June 2024. Additional gold medals were won by Apostolos Siskos in the 200m event with a time of 1:55.95 and Anna Ntountounaki in the 50m butterfly with 26.11. Stergios Bilas secured bronze in the 50m butterfly, while Artemis Vasilaki took silver in the 1,500m freestyle at 16:22.15.

On August 23, Apostolos Christou added to the tally by winning the gold medal in the 50m backstroke with a time of 24.74. He finished ahead of Italian Francesco Lazzari, who clocked 25.12, and Spaniard Marcos Rodriguez, who took third in 25.20. Another Greek competitor, Vangelis Makrygiannis, finished fifth in the same race with a time of 25.36. These results represent a significant performance for the Greek delegation, highlighting the consistent form of the country's national swimming team in international competition.
