Large-scale wildfire threatens Reno, Nevada

A massive wildfire, officially named the "Hawk" fire, is currently burning through Nevada, United States, posing a severe threat to the northern parts of Reno. As of August 24, 2026, the blaze has consumed approximately 52,610 acres of land, forcing authorities to mobilize emergency response teams across the region.

The human impact is substantial, with 42,000 residents forced to evacuate their homes, while an additional 45,000 people have been placed under advisory to prepare for potential evacuation. The fire has spread from the Sierra Nevada foothills to areas near the University of Nevada. Despite the widespread destruction, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport remains outside the danger zone and continues to operate flights normally.
