Arson attack destroys three vehicles in Dali
A fire broke out in the early hours of Monday, August 24, 2026, in the Dali area of Nicosia, destroying three motor vehicles. The Nicosia Fire Service received a call at 3:32 am and dispatched two fire engines from the 'Sergeant Spyros Ttanti' Acropolis Fire Station, which successfully brought the blaze under control by 4:02 am.
Two of the vehicles, belonging to a 53-year-old man, were completely destroyed, while a third vehicle—reportedly owned by a neighbor—sustained extensive damage. Authorities are treating the incident as a deliberate act of arson. Evidence collected by the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) includes security camera footage showing a vehicle fleeing the scene at the time of the fire. Investigators are exploring the possibility that the perpetrators mistakenly targeted the neighbor's vehicle due to its similarity in type to those of the 53-year-old owner.
The owner has informed police that he has no known disputes and has never previously been involved in any criminal cases. Officials are now examining his professional background and personal contacts as part of the ongoing investigation into the motive behind the attack.
