Paphos expands smart tourism signage programme

Tourism authorities in the Paphos district are continuing their initiative to transform the region into a "smart destination" by integrating digital technology into local landmarks. Over the past two years, this project has focused on installing smart signage equipped with QR codes at various sites of interest. A prominent example is the ancient oak tree in Fyti, which is over 500 years old. Visitors who scan the QR codes on these signs can access multilingual information, including historical details, environmental education on forest protection, and multimedia content such as photographs and videos.

The fifth phase of this signage programme has recently been completed, resulting in the installation of 23 new smart signs in locations including Yeroskipou, Akamas, Chloraka, Choli, Salamiou, Simou, and Drousia. This initiative is part of a broader, multi-year strategy to upgrade the visitor experience through digitized information. Looking ahead, authorities have already initiated plans for a sixth phase of the project, which aims to install similar smart signage at 18 additional locations throughout the district.
