Austrian bus carrying German students crashes in Netherlands

Early on August 24, 2026, an Austrian tourist bus transporting German middle school students collided with a delivery van in the Netherlands. The incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. on the A28 motorway near the town of Wezep, situated roughly 100 kilometers east of Amsterdam. According to the Gelderland provincial police, there were over 50 people on board the bus at the time of the collision.

Authorities confirmed that approximately 20 individuals sustained injuries, with eight transported to local hospitals. Police noted that some of the hospitalized victims are in serious condition, while others suffered only minor injuries. The driver of the delivery van was among those injured. Images from the scene showed emergency responders assisting students exiting the bus through the roof, with many injuries attributed to broken glass.

Following the crash, the A28 motorway was closed in both directions to facilitate rescue operations and investigation. The site of the incident remains under police observation as they work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision between the two vehicles.
