Inia deputy mayor renews demands for coastal access in Akamas

On August 24, 2026, Yagos Tsivikos, the deputy mayor of Inia in the Akamas municipality, publicly criticized long-standing restrictions preventing local residents from accessing coastal areas. Tsivikos stated that for approximately 40 years, local properties have been subject to restrictive measures, which now extend to the beaches themselves. He argued that Inia residents are unfairly denied the ability to enjoy their local coastline unlike other citizens in Cyprus.

To address these concerns, local authorities have proposed installing a limited number of umbrellas and sunbeds at a specific rocky site in the eastern bay, which lacks sandy areas. Tsivikos noted that this proposal is intended primarily to serve local residents rather than just tourists. He also criticized environmental organizations, accusing them of repeatedly causing obstacles for the local community and failing to provide constructive solutions to the ongoing access crisis.
