Viva.com to process electronic payments for the Republic of Cyprus
Viva.com, a European tech bank, has been selected by the Treasury of the Republic of Cyprus to provide electronic transaction processing services for the Cypriot government. This agreement follows a competitive bidding process that spanned four years, with officials from the Treasury noting that the duration was influenced by procedural delays occurring after the initial submission of tenders.
The contract tasks Viva.com with developing an advanced, multi-channel payment infrastructure that will support the government's digital portal, Gov.cy. The platform will facilitate various public payments, including direct taxes, vehicle registration fees, and social security contributions, with an expected annual transaction volume exceeding €1.5 billion. Through the integration of the Smart Checkout solution, citizens and businesses will gain access to diverse payment methods, including card transactions and account-to-account (A2A) transfers. The new system is designed to streamline interactions between the public and government departments as part of the country's ongoing digital modernization efforts.
