TRNC to implement new electronic visa and migration tracking systems

On August 24, 2026, the Turkish Cypriot authorities announced the launch of two new digital systems designed to monitor migration and manage entry processes. Prime Minister Unal Ustel stated that these measures aim to curb irregular migration and enhance public safety by ensuring the administration has comprehensive data on all individuals entering the territory, including their purpose of stay and expected duration.

The initiative will initially apply to citizens of Syria, Nigeria, and Armenia, who will be required to utilize the new electronic visa system. This replaces the traditional consular visa process for these specific nationalities. Officials explained that security vetting will now occur prior to arrival, as applications will undergo preliminary reviews by the immigration department in coordination with local police and relevant authorities to verify the legitimacy of each entry.
