Sixty-five dangerous products reported to EU Safety Gate system

The Cyprus Consumer Protection Service announced on Monday that 65 non-food products posing risks to health and safety were reported to the European Union's Safety Gate system during the week starting August 17, 2026. These alerts originate from various EU member states and serve as an early warning mechanism to protect consumers across the bloc.

The diverse list of flagged items includes toys, childcare products, electrical appliances, cosmetics, clothing, footwear, motor vehicles, personal protective equipment, sports and recreational goods, kitchenware, chemicals, furniture, construction materials, and fireworks. Identified hazards are wide-ranging and include risks of choking, electrocution, fire, burns, various physical injuries, chemical exposure, cuts, as well as potential damage to hearing or vision.

As the national contact point for the Safety Gate system, the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service disseminates these notifications to ensure public awareness and prevent the circulation of hazardous goods. The process is part of a continuous EU-wide monitoring effort to identify and remove unsafe non-food products from the market, ensuring consistent adherence to safety standards across all member states.
