Deputy Minister of Social Welfare visits Limassol to address homelessness

On August 24, 2026, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Tina Pavlou, visited the Municipality of Limassol to discuss strategies for combating homelessness and improving social welfare with Mayor Giannis Armeftis. The primary focus of the meeting was the expansion of the 'Schedia' support center, which has been operating since 2019 to provide holistic assistance to vulnerable populations.

Limassol currently faces a severe housing crisis driven by rapid development, corporate influxes, and short-term rentals, which have inflated rent prices beyond the reach of many residents. According to data, the 'Schedia' center handles over 300 cases annually, with approximately 30 individuals seeking basic needs support daily. Minister Pavlou emphasized that government efforts will transition from mere temporary shelter to sustainable social reintegration. Both the Ministry and the Municipality aim to strengthen existing social structures to ensure that no citizen remains without support as the city grapples with the fallout of its economic growth.
