Increase in attacks against food delivery workers reported in Cyprus

Cypriot police have reported a concerning rise in violent incidents against food delivery workers during the first half of 2026. From the beginning of the year through June 30, authorities recorded 24 attacks, surpassing the total of 23 incidents reported for the entire year of 2025. These figures do not include subsequent attacks in July or a recent violent incident in Paphos that resulted in five injuries.

Police spokesperson Byron Byronos confirmed that 14 arrests have been made in connection with these 2026 cases, compared to 18 arrests made throughout 2025. Investigations suggest that the primary motive for these attacks is robbery, with perpetrators seeking to steal money from the delivery staff. While there have been reports suggesting some assailants were acquaintances or co-nationals of the victims, potentially linked to personal or financial disputes, officials state that robbery remains the only substantiated motive at this time.

Authorities are treating these incidents as a priority and are conducting investigations with high levels of caution. As the number of attacks continues to climb, police have issued safety guidance for delivery workers to mitigate further risks during their shifts.
