Vandalism reported at future EOKA museum site in Pelendri

Authorities in the Limassol district are investigating an act of vandalism targeting a building under preparation to house an EOKA museum in the village of Pelendri. According to reports surfaced on August 23 and 24, 2026, unidentified individuals threw paint on the facility and attempted to forcibly remove its signage using tools like crowbars. Local residents stated that the suspects were spotted by neighbors during the night and subsequently fled the scene before they could be apprehended.

Community members have condemned the incident, suggesting that the perpetrators are opposed to the establishment of the museum and the commemoration of EOKA history in the village. The PEOF organization in Thessaloniki also issued a statement denouncing the act, emphasizing that such behavior shows a lack of respect for national history and figures. The police have been urged by local residents to expedite the investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible for the destruction.
