China advances development of hypersonic air-to-air missiles

As the United States under President Donald Trump seeks to stabilize the Middle East following six months of conflict with Iran, China is significantly upgrading its military capabilities. According to Bloomberg, the Chinese military has successfully developed hypersonic glide vehicles capable of launching air-to-air weapons to target critical assets, such as command and control aircraft, from distances of thousands of kilometers.

This expansion is part of a broader strategy to leverage China’s arsenal, which already includes over 3,150 ballistic missiles. Beyond anti-aircraft capabilities, reports indicate China has equipped certain hypersonic cruise missiles for anti-ship missions. These advancements pose a strategic challenge to the U.S., which currently faces supply shortages in its own long-range strike weapons and air defense missile inventory. While these developments signal a shift in regional strategic power, no specific timeline for the operational deployment of these weapons has been disclosed by Chinese officials.
