US military strike on speedboat in Eastern Pacific

The United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced on Monday that its forces conducted a strike on a speedboat in the Eastern Pacific Ocean on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The military labeled the victims as "narcoterrorists" and stated that the vessel was operating along established drug trafficking routes. A declassified ten-second black-and-white video released by the military shows the high-speed boat being hit by a projectile, which caused an immediate explosion and fire.

SOUTHCOM maintains that confirmed intelligence indicated the vessel was actively involved in drug smuggling operations. This incident is part of an ongoing U.S. campaign in the Caribbean and the Eastern Pacific aimed at dismantling narcotics trafficking networks. According to reports, this strategy has led to more than 200 fatalities since September 2025. The U.S. military continues to utilize these tactical strikes as part of its regional security mandate to intercept illicit maritime activities.
