Tremithousa elementary school parents protest plan to remove classroom

Parents of students at the Tremithousa Elementary School, located in the northern suburbs of Paphos, are protesting against a Ministry of Education decision to remove one of the school's six portable classrooms. The school currently operates exclusively using these portable structures, and the community argues that this decision further degrades the quality of education provided, as the existing facilities are already at capacity.

The school board and organized parents expressed strong opposition when informed of the plan to repurpose the classroom for another school facing urgent needs. In response to their complaints, officials indicated that modifications would be made to the remaining five units to accommodate the displaced students. The Chairman of the Parliamentary Education Committee, Chrysanthos Savvidis, has confirmed the government's intention.

In addition to the protest held outside the school premises, parents are considering more disruptive measures, including the potential blockage of the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road near the Tremithousa-Mesogi traffic lights. The situation remains tense as the community continues to advocate for infrastructure improvements rather than the reduction of existing, albeit inadequate, facilities.
