Cyprus police conduct nationwide enforcement operations

On the night of August 24, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted nationwide preventive operations aimed at maintaining public order and increasing safety. Officers checked 446 drivers and 131 passengers, inspected 38 premises, and executed 246 traffic citations, including 68 for speeding. Additionally, 162 alcohol tests were performed, resulting in one positive case, while three individuals were reported for drug-related driving offences. Authorities seized eight vehicles and made six arrests for various crimes, including car theft, drug possession, illegal residency, and assault against a police officer.

Separately, the British Bases Police reported 34 arrests over the preceding seven days, focusing on road safety and drug control. Their activities included 30 operations resulting in 63 traffic fines and 25 alcohol breath tests. In a distinct incident, authorities in the Dhekelia area collaborated with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre to rescue two men, aged 25 and 37, who were found 1.5 nautical miles off the coast on Saturday. This rescue followed several recent drowning incidents, prompting officials to issue warnings regarding sea safety.
