Police conduct nationwide security operations across Cyprus

Over the nights of August 26 and 27, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of targeted preventive operations across the country to curb crime, maintain public order, and improve safety. The operations involved intensive patrols, vehicle stops, and inspections of premises in key urban areas. While early reports from August 26 indicated six arrests, subsequent data from August 27 and 28 confirmed a total of eight arrests for various offenses, including theft, public intoxication and disorderly conduct, illegal residency, and outstanding court warrants for unpaid fines.

During these operations, officers stopped 375 vehicles and checked 518 individuals. Additionally, they performed 93 inspections of business establishments, resulting in one formal report. Authorities were particularly active on the road network, issuing 240 traffic citations. Among these, 95 were for speeding, seven for driving under the influence of alcohol, and two for suspected drug-impaired driving. Eight vehicles were impounded as part of ongoing investigations into traffic violations. While initial reports from the August 26 operations mentioned different statistics—such as 551 vehicle checks and 736 people checked—the latest updates clarify the scale of the subsequent nationwide effort.
