Police conduct wide-scale enforcement operations across Cyprus and British bases

Over the past week, law enforcement authorities in Cyprus and the British Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) have conducted intensive security and road safety operations. The British Bases Police reported 34 arrests for various offences, including eight cases of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and four drug-related investigations, three of which involved suspected cocaine. Additionally, authorities carried out 30 road safety campaigns, issuing 63 fixed penalties. On Saturday, a joint search and rescue operation in Dhekelia successfully recovered two men, aged 25 and 37, stranded 1.5 nautical miles offshore.

In separate, nationwide preventive operations conducted on Wednesday night, the Cyprus Police checked 551 vehicles and 736 individuals. These checks resulted in six arrests for offenses such as drug possession, illegal residency, and failure to appear in court. Officers issued 268 traffic citations, including 92 for speeding, and confiscated eight vehicles. While the situation remains stable, officials have urged increased caution at sea following a recent drowning, and police continue to investigate a suspected arson attack on two vehicles in the Akrotiri area.
