Ruben Selles appointed as new head coach of AEK Larnaca

AEK Larnaca has officially announced the appointment of 43-year-old Spanish manager Ruben Selles as their new head coach. Selles, who was born on June 15, 1983, in Valencia, has signed a one-year contract with the club. He brings extensive experience to the role, having previously held positions at various international clubs, including Southampton in the Premier League, as well as Reading, Hull City, Sheffield United, and Real Zaragoza.

His coaching career began in 2008 as a member of the technical staff at Aris Thessaloniki. Over the following years, he gained experience with clubs such as Villarreal, Shinnik Yaroslavl, Neftchi, Stromsgodset, Qarabag, Aarhus GF, and FC Copenhagen. Before the 2020/21 season, he served as head coach for the Valencia U18 team. Earlier this summer, Selles was linked to APOEL, where he met with the management, though the club ultimately chose Nikos Papadopoulos for the position.

This hiring marks a new chapter for AEK Larnaca as they aim to improve their tactical approach for the upcoming season. The team expects that Selles’s significant experience in major European leagues will provide the necessary leadership to face their upcoming challenges.
