Rubén Sellés appointed as the new head coach of AEK Larnaca

AEK Larnaca has officially appointed 43-year-old Spanish coach Rubén Sellés as its new head coach on a one-year contract. Sellés replaces Mauro Camoranesi, who was dismissed eleven days prior, and will be assisted by the newly hired Vicent Gilabert. The decision was spearheaded by technical director Xavi Roca, who selected the Spaniard for his extensive international experience, including previous coaching roles at Southampton, Reading, Hull City, and Real Zaragoza.

Interestingly, Sellés had traveled to Cyprus earlier in June to negotiate a potential deal with APOEL, though those discussions did not reach a successful conclusion. Now settled with the Larnaca club, the manager faces an immediate challenge as he takes charge of the team for the upcoming league premiere against APOEL this Saturday.

Following his arrival in Cyprus, Sellés held his first training session on August 26 and was officially introduced to the media on August 27 at the AEK Arena. During his presentation, he expressed his enthusiasm for the project and confirmed his focus on managing the current roster, while noting that future reinforcements could still be pursued if necessary.
