Interdisciplinary performance Ledra's Lament to close Nicosia festival

The Nicosia festival will conclude on September 10, 2025, at 20:30 with an interdisciplinary performance titled "Ledra’s Lament," directed by Kris Muhammed Adem. This cross-communal, non-narrative production integrates elements of music, dance, design, and drag art to explore the historical memory and damaged ecosystem of Nicosia.

Drawing on archives of the ancient city of Ledra, the performance examines the city's past as a garden metropolis. A distinctive feature of the work is the use of the Eteocypriot language, a largely extinct ancient tongue. The production utilizes a site-specific approach where performers, representing "our ancestors," occupy the amphitheatre seats traditionally reserved for the audience, while the actual attendees are positioned in front of the stage, creating a fluid dynamic between observers and participants.

The performance serves as a reflective journey intended to connect the city's ancient roots with a vision for a shared cultural future. By challenging the traditional spatial relationship between the stage and the audience, the work invites spectators to reconsider their role within the historical narrative of the urban landscape.
