Cabinet approves expansion of all-day schools and new infrastructure projects

The Cypriot Cabinet of Ministers held its second session today following the recent government reshuffle by President Nikos Christodoulides. During the meeting, officials addressed several key governance issues, including education, public safety, and national health strategies.

Minister of Education Athena Michaelidou announced a significant expansion of all-day schools, which will increase from 220 to 381 starting this September. Furthermore, the government aims to rectify legislative distortions regarding the teacher appointment system, with discussions scheduled with educational unions later this week. Regarding public infrastructure, Minister of Justice Costas Fytiris confirmed that the construction process for a new Fire Station and a new Police Directorate in Larnaca has been approved, with work expected to commence in 2027.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved a new national strategy for multiple sclerosis, as presented by the Minister of Health. The meeting also featured a presentation of the six-month fiscal policy report by the Minister of Finance and discussions on agricultural subsidies, reflecting the government's current administrative priorities.
