Owner arrested after fatal dog attack in Menidi

A 54-year-old Ukrainian national was arrested in Menidi, Attica, following a dog attack on a local resident and her pet. The incident occurred on Amaryllidos Street. While AlphaNews reports that the victim was a 16-year-old walking in the evening at approximately 9:00 p.m., Cyprus Times reports that the victim was a 26-year-old attacked during the morning hours. Authorities confirmed that the attacker was a dog kept within the owner's yard that escaped or reached the passerby.

The victim sustained minor injuries during the struggle, while her own dog died as a result of the injuries inflicted during the attack. The 54-year-old owner has been taken into police custody. A formal case file has been opened against him, charging him with violations of animal welfare laws, destruction of property, and negligent bodily harm. The investigation is ongoing as authorities review the circumstances of the incident, including the security of the enclosure where the dog was kept.
