Cyprus government approves construction of new police and fire facilities in Larnaca

On August 25, 2026, the Cypriot Council of Ministers announced plans for the construction of a new Police Directorate and a new Fire Station in Larnaca. Minister of Justice and Public Order Costas Fytiris stated that the projects are scheduled to commence in 2027 and will be built on state-owned land.

The initiative follows presidential directives aimed at upgrading the infrastructure of the police and fire services, which have been operating out of facilities built in the 1950s. The government identified these upgrades as essential to meet modern operational requirements and accommodate the significant development of the Larnaca district.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Justice confirmed that this infrastructure upgrade program is not limited to Larnaca. Plans are already underway to proceed with similar projects for the Police Directorates in Nicosia and Limassol as part of a broader effort to modernize public safety facilities across the country.
