For those who secure a position, this announcement initiates a difficult period of searching for student housing in Greece under a very tight schedule, putting them at a disadvantage compared to Greek residents who have had more time to secure accommodations.

Financial concerns are mounting as rental costs in Greece have risen significantly over recent years, effectively closing the gap between Greek and Cypriot market prices. Data from the first half of 2026 indicates that rental prices in popular student areas, particularly in Athens and Thessaloniki, can reach up to €550 for a 40-square-metre property. In premium locations near major universities, listing prices have reached approximately €13.70 per square metre. While some regional cities remain more affordable, successful candidates face the immediate challenge of navigating an unfamiliar market with limited time and resources.
