Two 85-year-old best friends travel the world
Ellie Hamby and Sandy Hazelip, both 85 years old, have gained significant attention for their global travel adventures. The two best friends, who document their journeys on their popular TikTok account @aroundtheworldat80, have visited 50 countries after starting their expedition in their 80s. Their experiences include witnessing the Northern Lights in Finland, navigating the Amazon River at night, and crossing Siberia via the Trans-Siberian Railway.
The pair, who refer to themselves as the "traveling grandmas," have accumulated over 110,000 followers on social media. Through their content, they aim to challenge stereotypes about aging and prove that explorations can continue well into one's later years. Hamby, a professional photographer, emphasizes that life does not stop at 60, but rather continues to offer opportunities for discovery.
The duo has formalized their experiences in a co-authored memoir titled "Here We Go: Lessons for Living." Their ongoing project serves as both a travel log and an inspirational message for older generations, illustrating that physical age does not act as a barrier to experiencing the world's most remote locations.
