Israeli airstrikes and military activity result in Palestinian casualties in Gaza

Recent Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have resulted in several Palestinian deaths, including those of young children. On Sunday, an airstrike in Zawayda killed at least two people, including four-year-old Mohammad Abdel-Salam Taha, following an evacuation warning. A second strike occurred in the Nuseirat refugee camp. By Monday, additional incidents were reported: a ten-year-old girl named Amal Abu Khater was killed in Khan Younis by gunfire, while further airstrikes in the Bureij refugee camp and Khan Younis resulted in the deaths of another child and at least two other individuals. A separate strike in Deir Al-Balah killed one person, with the Israeli military stating it targeted a Hamas militant.

Since an October 2025 U.S.-backed ceasefire was established, ongoing clashes have persisted, with Palestinian health officials reporting over 1,280 deaths in the territory, compared to four Israeli soldiers reported killed by their military. While the Israeli army stated it is investigating the reports regarding Zawayda, Nuseirat, and Bureij, it denied knowledge of the incident involving the ten-year-old girl in Khan Younis. These events underscore the continued volatility in the region despite the formal cessation of major combat operations.
