Dimitris Kokotas passes away at 57 after long illness
Popular Greek singer Dimitris Kokotas passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 57. He had been hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the G. Gennimatas hospital since March 2024, following a severe myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest that occurred during rehearsals for the television show J2US. Despite a courageous two-and-a-half-year struggle to recover, he ultimately succumbed to his condition, with reports citing septic shock as the cause of death.
The son of the renowned singer Stamatis Kokotas, Dimitris established his own successful music career in the 1990s and remained an influential figure in the Greek entertainment industry. His passing has triggered an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and friends, including Traiana Anania, Manto, and others who honored his legacy.
The funeral service for the late artist was held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Holy Church of Panagia Eleousa in Agia Varvara. The municipality covered the funeral expenses and announced plans to name the Municipal Conservatory's events hall in his honor, in recognition of his service as a local municipal councilor.
