Greek singer Dimitris Kokotas dies at 57 after long hospitalization

Dimitris Kokotas, a prominent Greek singer and son of the legendary performer Stamatis Kokotas, passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 57. He died at the Georgios Gennimatas Hospital, where he had been receiving intensive care for approximately two and a half years. The artist's long hospitalization began on March 28, 2024, after he suffered a severe myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest during rehearsals for the television show 'J2US'.

Born on December 14, 1968, Kokotas built a successful career in the 1990s, debuting with his gold-certified album 'Diadoseis' in 1994. Throughout his career, he collaborated with major figures in the Greek music scene, including Marinella, Kaiti Garbi, and Vassilis Karras. Despite extensive medical efforts and the support of his family, including his wife Katerina Petraki, his condition remained critical.
