Singer Dimitris Kokotas dies at 57

Greek singer Dimitris Kokotas passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 57, following a prolonged hospitalization at the Gennimatas Hospital in Athens. The son of the renowned folk singer Stamatis Kokotas, he had been under medical care since March 28, 2024, when he suffered a severe myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest during rehearsals for the television show J2US. He remained in the intensive care unit for over two years after the incident, during which time his family maintained a vigil by his side.

Throughout his career, which began in the 1990s, Kokotas collaborated with prominent Greek artists including Marinella, Kaiti Garbi, Angela Dimitriou, and Vassilis Karras. He gained significant commercial success with his debut album 'Diadosis', released on February 10, 1994, which achieved gold status with over 30,000 copies sold in Greece and Cyprus. While most sources report he was hospitalized for two years, some outlets suggest his condition persisted for approximately 2.5 years. His death marks the end of a significant period for the artist, who had established a distinct presence in the Greek music scene following in his father's footsteps.
