Zelenskyy seeks U.S.-mediated peace deal by summer 2027

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced a diplomatic initiative to end the war with Russia, identifying a window of opportunity that remains open until the end of next summer in 2027. Developed in coordination with American and European officials, the proposal outlines a framework for a ceasefire and a potential free economic zone in the Donbas region, which would be managed by a neutral third party.

The Kremlin has formally rejected the viability of this proposal. Russian officials emphasized that the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces are legally considered part of the Russian Federation and stated that external governance of these territories is impossible. Previous peace negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow collapsed earlier this year following Ukraine's refusal to accept Russian territorial demands.

Zelenskyy remains optimistic about the possibility of ending the conflict within this timeframe, though the fundamental disagreement over the status of the Donbas region persists. There is no indication of further scheduled formal talks between the two nations following this latest proposal.
