Multiple wildfires break out across Greece on August 25

On August 25, 2026, multiple wildfires were reported across Greece, primarily affecting areas in Attica, Viotia, and Salamina. In Stefani, Viotia, a wildfire in a remote forest area prompted the deployment of 70 firefighters, 21 vehicles, four helicopters, and three aircraft. In Salamina, a separate blaze broke out near the local naval base around 16:40, burning low vegetation and waste materials, including retired batteries. Authorities mobilized 80 firefighters and 25 vehicles, supported by three helicopters and three aircraft. Due to the proximity to residential zones, a 112 emergency alert was issued at 17:10, ordering the evacuation of the Ano Vasilika and Nea Salamina settlements toward Akti Karaiskaki. While some reports mentioned explosions, officials stated that no ammunition or hazardous materials were present in the immediate vicinity of the fire. Separately, another fire was reported earlier in Lavrio, Attica, where 70 firefighters and extensive air support were deployed to contain the flames near a residential area.
