Cyprus Meteorological Department issues yellow heat warning for Thursday

The Meteorological Department of Cyprus has issued a yellow weather warning for extreme high temperatures affecting inland areas on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The alert is valid from 13:00 to 16:00 local time, with maximum temperatures in the interior expected to reach approximately 40 degrees Celsius.

While the region is currently under the influence of a seasonal low-pressure system, the weather is expected to be generally clear following the dissipation of morning mist and low clouds. However, isolated cloud development in the afternoon may trigger scattered rain in mountainous areas and potentially parts of the inland region. Wind speeds are expected to be light to moderate, reaching up to 5 Beaufort in southern coastal regions during the afternoon hours.

The current hot spell is expected to persist through Thursday, but a significant change is forecast for Saturday, August 29. A northern weather disturbance is projected to influence the island, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures, rainfall, and isolated thunderstorms, with conditions moving toward levels lower than the seasonal average.
