Yellow warning issued for extreme heat in Cyprus

The Cyprus Meteorological Department has issued a yellow weather warning due to extreme heat expected on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The alert is active from 13:30 to 16:00 local time, as temperatures in the island's inland regions are forecast to reach approximately 40 degrees Celsius.

Authorities have advised the public to exercise caution and avoid prolonged sun exposure during the peak heat hours. While the day remains mostly clear with light to moderate winds, there is a slight possibility of isolated rain in mountainous areas during the afternoon. Temperatures in other regions will reach roughly 32 degrees Celsius on the west coast and 34 degrees on the remaining coastlines, with 29 degrees in the higher mountains.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to change significantly by Saturday, August 29. A weather disturbance approaching from the north is predicted to bring rain and isolated thunderstorms, accompanied by a noticeable drop in temperatures across the island.
