Cypriot mountaineers complete charity expeditions on Mount Elbrus and Mount Olympus

In recent days, two distinct groups of Cypriot mountaineers have completed high-altitude expeditions dedicated to raising awareness for cancer-related causes. A team from Mountain Expeditions Cyprus successfully reached the 5,642-metre summit of Mount Elbrus in Russia on 23 August, carrying the flags of Cyprus and the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society. The four-member group began their mission on 19 August, acclimatizing on Mount Cheget and the Pastukhov Rocks before their final ascent. They dedicated the climb to cancer patients and the memory of those lost to the disease.

Separately, a group including the President of the Elpida Foundation, Professor Loizos G. Loizou, successfully climbed Mount Olympus in Greece to show solidarity with children suffering from cancer and leukemia. This initiative, scheduled for early September according to some reports but confirmed as successful by others, aimed to promote hope and support for young patients and their families. Both expeditions follow previous charity efforts, such as the 'Hope and Love' marathon, continuing a trend of using mountaineering as a symbolic platform to highlight social issues in Cyprus.
