Cypriot team reaches Elbrus summit for charity

On August 23, 2026, a team of four Cypriot climbers from Mountain Expeditions Cyprus successfully reached the summit of Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe at 5,642 meters. During the expedition, they displayed both the national flag of Cyprus and the flag of the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society to honor the organization’s work and support individuals affected by cancer.

The expedition began on August 19 with the group's arrival in the Russian village of Azau. Following a period of acclimatization that included a climb to 3,461 meters on Mount Cheget on August 20 and reaching the Pastukhov Rocks at 4,700 meters on August 21, the final summit push commenced at 10:00 p.m. on August 22. The climbers reached the peak at 9:45 a.m. the following day. This climb follows the group’s previous successful ascent of Mont Blanc last year.

The members of the expedition dedicated their effort to those currently battling cancer and to the memory of those lost to the disease. The project highlights the team's ongoing commitment to mountaineering and philanthropy, marking the latest in a series of significant climbs undertaken by the group.
