Nicosia police arrest 20-year-old after seizing two kilograms of cannabis

On August 26, 2026, the Cyprus Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) arrested a 20-year-old man in Nicosia for his alleged involvement in the illicit importation of controlled substances. The operation followed an intelligence report regarding a suspicious parcel arriving from abroad through a courier company.

Upon arriving at the courier facility, the suspect attempted to claim the package, which contained approximately two kilograms of cannabis. Officers immediately took him into custody for flagrant offenses. During a subsequent body search, authorities discovered an additional two grams of cannabis in his possession. The suspect is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court on Wednesday, where prosecutors will request his remand to facilitate the ongoing investigation conducted by the Nicosia branch of YKAN.
