20-year-old arrested in Nicosia for receiving two kilograms of cannabis

On August 25, 2026, members of the Cyprus Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) arrested a 20-year-old man in Nicosia after he arrived at a courier company to collect a package containing approximately two kilograms of cannabis. The operation followed an intelligence assessment regarding illegal drug distribution. Upon his arrest, authorities conducted a body search and discovered an additional two grams of cannabis in his possession.

Reports indicate that the suspect is a Bulgarian national and the package was addressed under a false name. The 20-year-old is scheduled to appear before the Nicosia District Court today, where authorities will request his remand.

YKAN is currently investigating the potential involvement of accomplices and examining whether the suspect had previously placed other orders for narcotics.
