Woman known as Sandy speaks out in high-profile Cypriot legal case

A woman identified by the pseudonym 'Sandy,' a central figure in a major legal and political scandal involving alleged corruption in Cyprus and Greece, has publicly addressed the case for the first time. In a written statement submitted to the Cyprus Times, she admitted to assuming a 'fictional role' and noted that her involvement began through voluntary discussions with lawyer Nikos Kliridis. While acknowledging her own choices, she rejected claims that she was coerced or bribed. She further called for an independent technical audit of the messages central to the case, though she stated that the mobile phone she used at the time has been lost.

The case has already reached the judicial stage, with 101 criminal charges filed in July 2026 against both 'Sandy' and journalist-author Makarios Drousiotis. Charges include forgery, publishing false news, and harassment. Drousiotis responded by inviting a forensic examination of his own devices, while pointing to 'Sandy's' missing phone and suggesting that her personal computer—which she previously claimed would reveal damaging information if investigated—remains a key piece of evidence. Meanwhile, Nikos Kliridis has disputed 'Sandy's' account, denying that his questions prompted the creation of her persona.
