Low tax filing rates ahead of October 31 deadline in Cyprus
Taxpayers in Cyprus are facing an approaching deadline of October 31, 2026, for the submission of income tax returns for the 2025 tax year. Despite the portal being open since mid-June, official data from the Tax Department indicates that only 24.6% of taxpayers have finalized their submissions. Out of approximately 337,400 potential applicants, only 83,190 have completed the process, comprising 76,000 employees and 7,190 self-employed individuals.
Furthermore, 15,280 taxpayers have saved their forms as 'temporary' entries, which does not constitute a formal submission and may result in penalties if not finalized before the deadline. While 98,470 people have interacted with the TAXISnet system, the low completion rate suggests a significant backlog remains as the deadline nears.
This year marks the final time taxpayers will use the TAXISnet system. From the 2026 tax year onwards, the government will mandate the use of the new 'Tax For All' digital platform. This transition coincides with broader tax reforms, including an increase in the tax-free threshold to 22,000 euros, intended to streamline future filing processes.
