Low tax return submission rates reported as October 31 deadline approaches

As the October 31 deadline for the 2025 tax year approaches, only 24.6% of taxpayers in Cyprus have completed their final income tax returns. According to data from the Tax Department, out of approximately 337,400 expected filers, only 83,190 have successfully submitted their documents, consisting of 76,000 employees and 7,190 self-employed individuals. An additional 15,280 taxpayers have saved their forms in a temporary state, which does not constitute a final filing and leaves them vulnerable to potential penalties if not completed properly.

Tax authorities have expressed concern over this habitual last-minute rush, noting that 5,200 taxpayers faced a €100 fine for failing to finalize their returns during the previous tax year. This marks the final year that the current TAXISnet system will handle these submissions. Beginning with the 2026 tax year, the government will transition to the new 'Tax For All' digital platform, which will support updated fiscal policies, including an increase in the tax-free threshold to €22,000. Taxpayers are being urged to finalize their submissions promptly to avoid administrative complications or financial sanctions.
